Two Dukes juniors combined for 43 points Friday to lead their team to 72-68 Patriot Athletic Conference win over the Fairview Warriors.
Wellington’s Trey Bealer had 23 points on the night and Josh Kindel 20. The duo helped the Dukes to a 27-16 start after the first quarter.
The Warriors grabbed 18 points before halftime to cut Wellington’s lead to 35-34.
Fairview’s hot streak continued in the third period with the help of Jared Butler’s 29 points on the night. The Warriors took a three point lead after the third, making it 54-51.
The Dukes tightened up their defense in the final quarter to hold the Warriors to 14 points as they added 21 — enough to secure their sixth conference win.
Wellington improved to 8-7 overall and 6-3 in the PAC.
A strong defensive second quarter last Tuesday also earned the Dukes a 74-61 victory over the Cloverleaf Colts.
The boys held steady 35-30 at halftime and outscored the Colts 25-10 in the third quarter to go up by 20 points.
Bealer led his team in the final two periods, scoring 16 of his 19 points, and Kindel led the team with 22 points on the night.
