A bicyclist was struck from behind by a car Thursday evening and had to be flown to Cleveland for treatment, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The incident happened at 7:21 p.m. on Rt. 252 in Columbia Township.
State troopers said Bradley Denington, 20, of Spencer, was behind the wheel of an Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight and rear-ended the cyclist, Rodney Harms, 64, of Valley City.
Though he was wearing a helmet, Harms was severely injured when he was thrown from the bike. He was taken first to Southwest Hospital, then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center.
Denington was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are not believed to have been factors in the crash, which remains under investigation. Troopers said charges are pending.
