Ohio to hold first tax-free holiday on back-to-school goods

Staff Report

Ohio’s first Sales Tax Holiday will run Friday to Sunday, Aug. 7-9, giving families the chance for back-to-school savings.

Shoppers will enjoy an exemption from paying sales tax on all clothing and footwear up to $75 per item and certain school supplies and instructional materials up to $20 per item.

“The Sales Tax Holiday will go a long way in easing the burden of back-to-school shopping for the average Ohio family,” said state Sen. Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville). “As a former school teacher, I am well aware of the relief this will provide parents and students as they prepare for the new school year.”

The sales tax holiday was signed into law this past December.
