One man is dead and another hospitalized following an early morning crash Wednesday near Findley State Park in Huntington Township.
It occurred at 6:15 a.m. just south of Jones Road when a 2007 Ford F-550 traveling north on Rt. 58 struck the left-rear of an Amish buggy that was also northbound, ejecting both the driver and passenger in the buggy.
Jon Swartzentruber, 25, of Homerville, the passenger in the buggy, was pronounced dead at the scene. The horse pulling the buggy was also killed.
The driver, Levi Shetler, 54, of Wellington, is in stable condition after being transported to Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin then to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. He was conscious and able to walk at the scene, according to Wellington fire chief Mike Wetherbee.
The driver of the Ford F-550, Mark Jones, 61, of Jeromesville, was not injured.
State Route 58 was closed for approximately three hours following the crash as crews worked to clean up the scene.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be involved but the crash will continue to be investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
