Showing support for children with Down syndrome has become a passion for students in the junior early childhood education program at the Lorain County JVS, seen seen here with preschoolers on a “buddy walk” inside the 10-acre JVS campus. They took part in a variety of fun events along the way, including an egg-on-a-spoon relay, corn hole, and a balance beam walk. The event raised funds for The Up Side of Downs, a nonprofit organization that provides support, education, and advocacy for people with Down syndrome, their families, and communities in 16 counties in Northeast Ohio. This school year, JVS kids have raised $1,246.
Kiley Smith of Wellington and Ja’Terra Patton of Midview will present this project as a Chapter Service Project at the State FCCLA Leadership Conference this month in Columbus. They are focusing on how the organization makes an impact in the communities it serves and on the teaching profession.
