Bullies just want to fit in, according to speaker and hypnotist Jason Christopher.
He talked to Wellington High School students Thursday about ending bullying.
Christopher said bullying is out of control and has even caused students to commit suicide.
The hypnotist picked nearly 15 people from the crowd to put into trance. The students were induced to a deep sleep, then convinced they were lying on a beach, enduring harsh cold, behind the wheel, or told to dance.
Christopher said teens are swayed every day by people they like out of a deep-seated desire to fit in. “You influence each other every single day,” he said. “People are afraid of not fitting in so they go along with it no matter what the consequences are.”
He encouraged students to avoid bullies, ask teachers for help, and ask bullies to stop. And there is never an excuse to pick on someone.
“Each and every one of you are different,” Christopher said. “The diversity makes us great.”
