Flames engulfed one of nine units at the Hillcrest Apartments in Wellington around 5 a.m. Friday.
Wellington firefighters found flames spreading quickly along the front of the building and through the common attic space above the units.
All occupants were out of the buildings when firefighters arrived but two sustained injuries. One was taken to the hospital by the South Lorain County Ambulance District for smoke inhalation and the other was taken for burn injuries.
Fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control in about 20 minutes. They remained on the scene for several hours to complete salvage and overhaul.
Two of the nine units were damaged by the fire and four units received mild to moderate smoke and water damage.
Wellington’s 18 firefighters were assisted by Litchfield, LaGrange, Rochester, Lorain County fire investigators, and the state fire marshal’s office.
The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
