Grapplers run into a buzzsaw, but recover in time
After an impressive team championship at Chippewa, the Dukes wrestlers came back to earth when they faced PAC foe Buckeye on Thursday. The term "buzzsaw" could be used to describe the Bucks.
Wellington had just three wrestlers earn victories in their 52-15 loss to Buckeye. Earning wins for the Dukes were junior Justin Bockmore at 130, senior Chris Coker at 140, and senior Tom Gronsky at 171.
Bockmore and Gronsky won by pin, while Coker won an exciting 8-6 match.
Things went better for the Dukes in the nightcap against Brooklyn; they won nine of the 13 weight classes, six of them by pin. In their 52-27 victory, the Dukes winners included junior Scotty Provoznik at 103, freshman Ben Provoznik at 112, sophomore Anthony Cwalina at 119, Bockmore at 130, junior Aaron Martin at 160, Gronsky at 171, sophomore Nick Sutherland at 189, and senior Josh Roberts at 215.
The bright spot of the evening was not the team win against Brooklyn, it was that Scotty Provoznik was again on the wrestling mat.
After a two-year struggle that saw Provoznik fighting another type of opponent, he won his first match in two years with a first-period pin against Brooklyn.
