Newspaper to charge $30 for
engagement, wedding announcements
The Wellington Enterprise this week has instituted a new $30 charge for publication of wedding, engagement and anniversary announcements.
"We have held off on charging for publication of these types of announcements, but with the economy in such poor shape, we have been forced to adopt new policies at The Enterprise," editor Kathleen Willbond said.
"We are surely one of the last newspapers in the country to publish engagements and wedding announcements free, and we are adopting a policy already in place at dailies and other weeklies," she added.
The cost -- $30 -- is the same amount charged for an obituary to appear in The Enterprise, and is significantly cheaper than area newspapers, she added.
Weddings, engagements and anniversaries will continue to be published on a space-available basis, and pre-payment is necessary.
