Josh Kindel and company refused to let the Pirates steal a win, clamping down in the fourth quarter Friday on the road in Black River. Kindel again led the Dukes with a game-high 16 points, while teammates Max Joppeck, Grant Kidd, and Nathaniel Shelton each walked away with 14. Coton Schmidt also broke into double digits with 13. Together they doubled up 64-32 over the Pirates by the end of the third quarter. The Pirates surged to 19 in the final period — by far their most proficient shooting of the night — but Wellington kept ahead by a point and ended the night with an 84-51 victory. Curtis Roupe led the Black River boys with 15 points and River Wheeler had 13.
