The Cardinals topped the Pirates 79-71 in the boys season opener Friday despite a 22-point performance by Black River’s Zach Hawley and a 19-point showing by Curtis Roupe. River Wheeler put up 15 for the Pirates. For Brookside, Jacob Papa had a 21-point night while Norman Elias took how 19 and Jacob Cole nailed 17.
