The Buckeye Bucks’ strong showing in the first half Friday secured a 64-57 upset over the Black River Pirates on Senior Night. The Pirates struggled to score in the first quarter as the Bucks took a 15-6 lead. Buckeye continued to drive to the basket and shut down Black River going into halftime with a steady 34-22 lead.
The Pirates took over in the second half, outscoring the Bucks 16-10 to pull within six points going into the final period. Black River battled for the win in the final minutes with senior Allan Benson leading the way with 22 points on the night. The boys could not squeeze out the win for their final regular season game, ending the season 4-11 in the Patriot Athletic Conference Stars Division.
