The Dukes wrestlers split a dual meet last Thursday at home against Firelands and Keystone.

Wellington dominated the Wildcats and improved to 5-0 in Patriot Athletic Conference dual meets. The Falcons were not as easy for the Dukes to pin, however.

Firelands won its first two matches and after two Wellington forfeits jumped to a 21-0 lead.

Tyler Wilfong at 132 pounds earned the Dukes their first victory on a come-from-behind pin to win his match.

Wrestlers Mason Wright, Max Mohrman, and Hayden Bartolovich won their matches to pull the Dukes within one point of the Falcons. Despite the late comeback, Wellington could not earn a sixth PAC dual meet win.

Wellington will host the State High School Wrestling Team Duals at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the high school.

This is the second time in three years the Dukes will host the event. They are the top seed in Region 19A and will face Trinity, Warrensville Heights, Columbia, and Lutheran West.

If the Wellington wrestlers win, they have the chance to host the regional semifinals and finals on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
