Canine friends of all shapes and sizes strutted their stuff Sept. 14 in a dog show held at the Sprenger Health Care Elms Retirement Village.

The event attracted more than 60 owners to Wellington from all over Lorain County. It was the first dog show held at the Elms, but likely not the last, said building administrator Jason Coe.

“We just love having people on our campus and especially with events the entire community can enjoy,” he said. “Our residents love dogs. Everyone loves dogs. We love supporting our residents getting to enjoy something unique that brings joy to their lives.”

A few dogs in the show were fully licensed therapy companions. That may not have been the sole intent of holding the event, but it was a welcomed residual effect judging by the faces of residents as they held weeks old puppies that were up for adoption.

“We have some great volunteers who bring dogs in to us every week,” said Coe. “It’s great to have an excuse right now for everyone to be outside, enjoying a nice end-of-summer night, and holding a dog. We hope to have this be an annual event going forward.”
