Indictment: Man accused of sexually assaulting 14-year-old

A 42-year-old Wellington man stands accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old, a third-degree felony.

Scott Webb is facing 16 counts of sexual assault. A grand jury delivered the indictment Aug. 10 after an investigation by Oberlin police.

Officers received a complaint June 17 from a mother and child. Upon obtaining a search warrant, officials arrested Webb the following day at a residence in Wellington.

He was arraigned in Oberlin Municipal Court and bond was set at $250,000. Webb was banned from Oberlin except for court appearances, as well as from Penfield Township, and must wear a GPS monitor.

Later, the case was bound over to the Lorain County Court of Common Pleas and bond was reduced to $50,000. Webb has since been released from the county jail.

Oberlin interim police chief Mike McCloskey said the child’s mother told officers that while her daughter never mentioned anything about the assaults, she noticed a drastic change in her mood over the course of one year.

The alleged sexual misconduct was brought to the mother’s attention when Webb used her debit card to buy feminine hygiene cream, McCloskey said.

When confronted about the purchase, Webb said her daughter was too embarrassed to ask for the medication.
