Four local students were among the thousands of FFA members who traveled this summer to Washington, D.C.

In the nation’s capital, they They attended workshops and seminars to evaluate their personal skills and interests, explore their leadership talents, and create service plans that will make a difference in their home communities.

Members of the Lorain County JVS FFA chapter took part in the conference. All hailed from the landscape and greenhouse management and industrial equipment mechanics programs at the Pittsfield Township vocational school.

They are Marquis Walker of Oberlin, Jesse Everson of Elyria, Don Sabella of Amherst, and Jessica Mileski of Wellington.

Advisor Beth Berthold said that her favorite part of the trip was seeing it make a difference in the students who attended. “It helps the students see that even though they are one person, they can contribute to the whole society and make an impact with that contribution,” she said.

Students also experienced the history of the nation’s capital and toured landmarks including the Washington Monument, War Memorial, the National Mall, Arlington National Cemetery, and the U.S. Capitol.

The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth, and career success training through agricultural education to student members who belong to local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
