Filing deadline nearing for November candidates

Time is running out for those thinking about seeking public office in Wellington.

The deadline to file petitions with the Lorain County Board of Elections is 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, which is 90 days prior to the general election.

Three Wellington village council seats are up for election to four-year terms. Current council members whose terms will expire Dec. 31 include Keith Rowland, Gene Hartman, and Sandy Denes.

Three Wellington school board seats are also on the ballot for four-year terms. Ayers Ratliff has filed to seek re-election. Other members whose terms will expire Dec. 31 include Brett Murner and Sally Stewart.

Other nearby races include trustee seats in Brighton, Camden, Huntington, Penfield, Pittsfield, Rochester, and Wellington townships; four council seats in Rochester village, for which Andy Kurpely is the sole candidate so far; and Rochester village mayor, for which Cynthia Kurpely has filed.
