This week’s featured senior is Mason Phillips, son of Lisa Phillips and Don and Kimberly Phillips.
He is the president of the band this year as well as a squad leader. He plays the tuba in the marching, concert, and pep bands and plays alto sax in the jazz band. He is also a member of the percussion ensemble.
Phillips’ most memorable band experience involved a stuffed monkey getting stuck in his sousaphone. He would recommend the band program to other students because, “You make lifelong friends, learn valuable life lessons, and get to pursue creating music. I’m not afraid to be called a band geek because, quite frankly, you can only be a part of a sports team for so long but music follows you the rest of your life!”
Phillips is also a member of the track team and Civil War Club. He plays in the Patriots Symphonic Band and participates in Tuba Christmas at Akron and Lorain.
He would like to thank his parents and music directors for their support. He plans to major in music education at Lorain County Community College or audition for a military band.
