Drivers from two vehicles walked away Friday after a cement truck overturned near the corner of Smith Road and state Route 301 in Penfield Township.
A Chevrolet Uplander minivan caused the spill, according to Wellington assistant fire chief Bill Brown. It attempted to make a turn while traveling south; when it crossed into the northbound lane in front of the cement truck, the larger vehicle veered off the road and flipped onto its side.
The truck, which belongs to Elite Concrete Industries of LaGrange, managed to completely avoid the minivan.
Its driver and two passengers remained at the scene to be questioned by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The driver of the truck, Bryan Brenzo, was treated for a few cuts and bruises.
“I was coming over the hill and saw the van sitting there with no turn signal on,” he said. “All of the sudden she comes over into my lane. I slammed on the breaks to miss her and put the truck in the ditch. There’s a cut on my arm and a big bruise on my back I can already begin to feel.”
