The driver who killed an 81-year-old Wellington woman in a head-on crash nearly a year ago will serve 30 days.
Ronald Podlich, 40, of Elyria, pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter in Oberlin Municipal Court Aug. 23, according to court records. No contest is considered a guilty plea.
Podlich was sentenced to 90 days with 60 suspended.
The case arises from a deadly Oct. 22 incident on Rt. 58 about 100 yards south of Merriam Road in Pittsfield Township. It took the life of Lula Clark.
She was southbound in a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol Elyria post. According to troopers, two drivers who witnessed the crash said Podlich, who was northbound in a 2006 Ford Explorer, drove left of center and struck Clark, who died at the scene.
Alcohol and drugs weren’t factors in the crash, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The posted speed limit in the area is 55 mph.
Podlich also pleaded no contest to improper driving/passing on the left side. He received a $150 fine.
