Call goes out for blood donors

Staff Report

Every second, three people across the world receive a life-changing blood transfusion.

Blood donation saves lives. That’s why LifeShare Community Blood Services is uniting with blood donor organizations across 21 countries to highlight an almost 30 percent international drop in first-time blood donors compared to a decade ago.

Throughout the Missing Type campaign, A’s, B’s and O’s — the letters of the main blood groups — will disappear in everyday and iconic spots including famous brands and locations in the U.S., Australia, Japan, Ireland, England, and many more countries.

Donors can make appointments to give blood at www.lifesharesharedonor.org or by calling 866-644-5433. Upon donation with LifeShare, donors are entered into the Loyal for Life Donor Rewards Club, which rewards donors with a Visa gift card in the mail (at the end of the calendar year) for donating three or more times annually. Gift card amounts depend on number of donations made with LifeShare throughout the calendar year.

Blood donation takes about an hour from check-in to refreshments. Each donation with LifeShare is capable of saving or improving the lives of up to three hospital patients in your community.

Blood donors must be at least 16 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good health. Donors who are 16 are required to turn in a signed permission form from a parent or guardian.
