Wellington school board president Joe Calfo shakes Keith McKenzie’s hand as he presents him with the Eagle Scout Award.
The Wellington board of education presented Keith McKenzie with an award for achieving the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America at its meeting Monday night.
Board president Joe Calfo said a few words congratulating McKenzie on his accomplishment before giving him the Eagle Scout Award. He said it’s McKenzie’s scout spirit, service, and leadership that helped him reach his goal.
The board recognized McKenzie in part because he completed an extensive service project as part of his Eagle Scout requirements, renovating the shot put and discus area of the track.
“I put in new benches and I put in two-by-fours for sector lines for the shot put area,” McKenzie said. “For the discus area I put in new gravel, a new ring, and two more benches.”
McKenzie will be junior this fall at Wellington High School.
