Staff Report

Two people were killed in an early morning crash Sunday in Penfield Township.

Benjamin Metzger, 25, and Jeremy Leiter, 24, both of Litchfield, died when their 2008 Ford F-350 drove off the side of Rt. 18 near Indian Hollow Road.

Metzger was behind the wheel at the time, about 12:30 a.m. The pick-up truck struck an embankment, began to overturn, and struck a tree, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Both men has passed when rescue crews arrived.

State troopers said the truck was traveling at an unsafe speed.

Inside, Metzger was not wearing a seat belt; it couldn’t be determined whether Leiter was wearing his.

It’s unknown whether alcohol played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
