This year’s 15th Annual Cheese Heritage Festival will be held July 17-19 at Howk Park in front of Wellington town hall.
Main Street Wellington is offering several competitions this year and putting out the call for contestants:
• The Cheesecake Bake-Off, the festival’s most popular event, has four categories to enter, including one for children 12 and under. The deadline to enter is July 13, so dust off your best cheesecake recipe. A special Jan Querin Memorial Award for “Best of Show Cheesecake” receives a top prize of $250.
• The Gary Jordan’s 5K and 10K Races and 1 Mile Walk will be held Saturday, July 18. All courses take runners and walkers through quaint, historic neighborhoods of the village. Short-sleeve Cheese Heritage Festival shirts will be given to all who pre-register by July 15. To register online, visit www.wellingtonroadraces.com.
• A cornhole tournament will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 19 on the front lawn at town hall. Registration is $15 per person or $25 per team. Participants can obtain a registration form or register on the day of the event. Prize money is determined by total number of registrations collected.
Registration forms for the Cheesecake Bake-Off and the cornhole tournament can be found at www.mainstreetwellington.org.
• The Cheesy Pet Costume Contest, a new event this year, will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 19 at the firehouse. Pet owners will need to register on-site between noon and 12:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for Best Overall Costume, Best Cheese-Related Costume, and Best Trick. Registration is free.
