The Child Garden, a child care facility, is looking to expand into Wellington.

“We are just happy we can branch out and help another community,” said administrator Melanie Dove.

The Lorain County-based business has facilities in Grafton, LaGrange, and Oberlin. The business hopes to open a location here in January 2017 just west of the Burger King and north of Wellington Dental on the village’s north side.

“We are in the process of applying for permits,” Dove said. Site plans and architectural drawings have been submitted to the Wellington planning commission.

The facility would have space for 100 children, ages six months to 12 years of age with hours from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Dove is considering staying open later evenings to accommodate those taking classes at the nearby Lorain County Community College Wellington Center.

Daycare and preschool would be provided at the facility. Summer programs with field trips along with busing to schools would also be available.

“We do offer a learning center and help all children get ready for kindergarten,” said Dove. Tutoring services are available. Basic sign language, Spanish, art, and yoga classes are part of the standard programming for all youngsters, she said.

“We provide a unique service in that we are much more family-oriented,” said Dove. “They won’t have to travel far away from their home community and many families are struggling finding before and after-school care. This will provide peace of mind for a lot of families in the area.”
