The search is on for a new Wellington finance director.

Karen Shaw submitted her resignation just before the end of the year. Her last day in office will be Tuesday, Jan. 12.

“My husband has accepted a promotion within his company and we will be relocating to corporate headquarters in St. Louis, Mo.,” the resignation memo read.

Her husband, Ralph, secured a job with Emerson Electric Company, headquartered in Ferguson, Mo. He previously worked with Ridge Tool in Elyria, which is an Emerson brand.

Shaw has served as finance director the past four years. Prior to joining the village, the position was elected. Due to charter changes, she was the first person to be appointed to the position.

“I plan to work with (Welllington village manager) Steve Pyles and my staff to finalize end-of-year tasks as well as get them started to work on things that are pending,” she wrote. “It is also my goal to leave Steve with some documentation as to what all is involved with this job so that my replacement will be prepared to ‘hit the ground running.’”

Upcoming business includes getting Wellington’s final budget numbers to Lorain County by March 31, finding insurance for public officials and law enforcement by mid-February, and preparing for the upcoming $1.15 million Adams Street overhaul project.

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to broaden my experience,” Shaw wrote. “I feel that we have accomplished many good things during my time here. It has always been my goal to do what was best for this village and its residents.”

On Monday, village council voted to advertise for candidates to fill the position. At the moment, the posting is only internal, but external applicants should visit third floor of town hall.
