A white mint DECA cocoa created by junior DECA students in the JVS marketing and management program won the Best Student Drink this month at the Zero Proof Mix-off.
The event was held at the Lorain County Community College and sponsored by the Lorain County General Health District.
It’s an annual event that has students from around the area creating non-alcoholic drinks that would be great to offer during the holiday season.
“We promote and emphasize safe driving on a regular and continuing basis at the JVS,” said marketing and management instructor Katie Street. “Having our students participate in this event is an extension of our ongoing activities and it was a lot of fun.”
Reporter Valerie Urbanik had a chance to try a cup of the cocoa. She thought it was delicious and recommends anyone who likes mint flavored items to make it and try it.
• 1/2 gallon milk
• Two 4-ounce packages of white chocolate, broken into pieces
• 1/2 cup crushed candy canes
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
• Whipped cream
• Small candy canes for garnish
Add milk, white chocolate, crushed candy canes, and vanilla to a 5-quart slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 1 1/2 hours, stirring every 15 minutes. Serve topped with whipped cream sprinkled with crushed candy canes and garnish with a small candy cane. Makes eight servings.
