Jim and Jean Jerousek were married Sept. 18, 1965, at at the Wellington Methodist Church and will celebrate their golden anniversary from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20 at the Wellington Eagles.

Jean (nee Poiner) was a 1960 graduate of Wellington High School and worked as a secretary in retail and at American Greetings in Oberlin.

Jim lived in Parma, Ohio, until the age of 17 when his family relocated to Penfield where Jim graduated from Keystone High School in 1957. His father opened Farm & Home Hardware in 1960 and Jim and his late brother Ray helped run the business until Ray’s son Scott took over in 2007. Jean also worked at the hardware from 1990 until 2004.

Jim and Jean have a daughter, Jenny, who married Andy Arntz on the same day, in the same church, 45 years later. Jenny, Andy, and their 15-month-old daughter, Daisy, moved to Wellington this spring. Daisy has certainly livened up Grandpa’s and Grandma’s lives.

Besides Farm & Home Hardware, Jim and Jean have a long history of serving the Wellington community.

Jim served 21 years with the Wellington Fire Department and retired as captain. He helped establish the Lorain County water shuttle in five counties with 32 fire departments and served as president for the first two years. He was a member and past president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, served on the Spirit of ‘76 board, and from 1997 to 2003 served on the BPA/town council. Jim is now a member of the Rochester Rod and Gun Club and the Wellington Eagles.

Jean was a member of the Civic Club and volunteered and co-advised her daughter Jenny’s Girl Scout Troop and 4-H Club for several years. Most recently, Jean was involved with Relay for Life and sings with the Community Choir and the Methodist Church choir.

The couple enjoys taking care of their yard and garden, spoiling their granddaughter, and traveling. Together they’ve visited 40 states and several countries, which led to a travel-themed anniversary party.

The community is invited to celebrate with the couple. RSVP to Jenny Arntz at 440-828-0160 or jenniferarntz@hotmail.com. No gifts.
