Hayeses celebrate 65th wedding anniversary

Sixty-five years ago, on Nov. 3rd of 1951, Maxine Merriman and the Rev. Dwight Hayes were united in marriage at Morgan Park Methodist Church in Chicago, Ill.

They will celebrate with their family on Thanksgiving.

They are the parents of John (Sue) Hayes of Macedonia and David Hayes of Wooster and Susan (Michael) Adams of Medina. Their grandchildren are Joshua Adams, Virginia “Ginnie” Adams, Gabriel “Gabe” Adams, James (Hillary) Hayes, and Sarah Hayes. Diana Valentine Monaghan “adopted” them as parents when her biological parents died more than 40 years ago.

Dwight and Maxine have served churches in many Ohio cities including the First United Methodist Church in Wellington. While in Wellington, the church underwent many updates including lighting of the steeple, remodeling of the kitchen and fellowship halls, and heating system improvements.

They enjoyed camping, traveling, and visiting family and friends. She has a green thumb when it comes to house plants. He enjoys reading and writing. He has had several articles printed in professional journals. He was on the committee to form Habitat for Humanity in Wayne County and was president of the board of Habitat’s Ashtabula County affiliate. She worked as a part-time secretary at a few schools over the years as well as church secretary when needed. She has crocheted more than 100 rugs.

Maxine and Dwight live in Wooster.
